The origin: an audience before a product

Filmit Studio didn’t start with a pitch deck. It started with a YouTube channel - 30,000 subscribers built over years of filmmaking and editing tutorials - and a growing list of the same complaints from working editors: the busywork. Cutting silences by hand. Assembling rough cuts from interview footage. Chasing text changes across forty comps at midnight.

In 2025 I started answering those complaints with software. Simple After Effects scripts at first, built solo with AI-assisted development using Claude and OpenAI, sold through a small online store to the people already watching the channel. I’m not a traditionally trained engineer - I’m a marketer and filmmaker who learned to ship real software by building an AI-assisted development workflow that could keep up with my ideas. The scripts sold. The feedback loop was instant: the audience told me what hurt, I shipped the fix, the channel demoed it.

The product thesis

The scripts pointed at a bigger problem. Video editors assemble their toolkit one $50 license at a time from a dozen vendors - no central hub, no updates, no coherence. Filmit Studio is the answer: 58+ plugins, effects, and transitions behind a single $20/month subscription, delivered through a desktop app that handles installation, licensing, and auto-updates across After Effects, Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve.

Flagship tools like JumpCut (auto-removes silences), RoughCut (assembles edits from local transcription), and GridMaker (split screens without masking) each kill a specific, well-known hour of editor busywork. That specificity is the marketing: every tool is its own demo video, its own search term, its own reason to subscribe.

The Polaris moment

Here’s where the story changes shape. Through my consulting work with Polaris Partner Group - leading go-to-market and brand programs for their cybersecurity and fintech portfolio - the fund’s partners had watched me operate for a year. In early 2026 I pitched them Filmit Studio: the traction, the audience moat, the subscription math.

They invested. And from that point the “solo” chapter ends, deliberately: Filmit Studio became a funded company scaling with Polaris’s development team, with me as founder and chief architect - owning product direction, system architecture, and every launch decision across the suite, while a real engineering team multiplied what I could ship alone.

The launch

June 2026: a full go-to-market I architected and ran like the client campaigns I’ve led for a decade - Product Hunt, PR, paid media, lifecycle email, affiliates, and the YouTube channel as the anchor media property. The subscription model, the pricing, the positioning (“Your Assistant Editor”), the launch content: one coherent motion.

Results

  • 0 → 100+ paying customers in under three months post-launch, growing fast
  • Social channels compounding at ~1,000 new followers per month since May
  • Single launch videos pulling 10,000+ comments
  • Trajectory pointed at $50K MRR within a year
  • A living proof point for everything I tell clients about AI-enabled operating leverage: one person built the v1; a funded team is scaling it

The journey

  1. 2019–2024

    The audience comes first

30,000 YouTube subscribers built over years of filmmaking, design, and editing tutorials - a community of working editors whose daily pain points I knew intimately, because they were mine too.

  2. 2025

Scripts in a small online store

The first products were simple After Effects scripts, built solo with AI-assisted development and sold one at a time through a small online store to the YouTube audience. No funding, no team - just shipping tools people asked for.

  3. Late 2025

    Filmit Studio takes shape

The scripts grew into a thesis: editors shouldn't buy tools one $50 license at a time. I designed and built Filmit Studio - a desktop hub with licensing, auto-updates, and billing - as the single subscription home for all of it.

  4. Early 2026

    The Polaris pitch

I presented Filmit Studio to Polaris Partner Group - the fintech and technology investors I consult for on the GTM side. They'd seen me operate on their portfolio companies; now they invested in mine.

  5. 2026

    Chief architect, real team

With investment closed, Filmit stopped being a solo project. I lead product as chief architect across every tool in the suite, scaling development with Polaris's engineering team while owning positioning, pricing, and the launch plan.

  6. June 2026

    Launch

Multi-channel go-to-market: Product Hunt, PR, paid media, lifecycle email, affiliates, and the YouTube channel that started it all. From zero to 100+ paying customers in under three months.

  7. Now

    Compounding

Social growing ~1,000 followers a month since May, single videos pulling 10,000+ comments, and a product trajectory pointed at $50K MRR within the year.
