The brief

The client - a category leader in account security whose name stays confidential - protects some of the biggest platforms on the internet from automated attacks and fraud. The product had earned its position. The sales motion hadn’t kept pace with it: positioning varied from rep to rep, packaging was hard for buying committees to compare, and deals meandered between first conversation and signature with no shared map of the stages in between.

Retained through Polaris Partner Group, I spent roughly five months redesigning the system - not the pitch deck, the system.

One narrative

Enterprise cybersecurity sales fail in a specific way: every seller improvises their own version of the story, so the company effectively has as many positionings as reps. The first phase rebuilt the enterprise narrative into one spine - the problem framing that makes urgency legible to a CISO and a fraud team at once, the competitive edges stated as claims a buyer can verify, and the proof sequenced to survive procurement scrutiny. One story, told the same way in every room.

Packaging buyers can evaluate

The second phase restructured how the offerings were packaged and presented. Enterprise buyers don’t buy what they can’t compare: unclear tiers create committee confusion, and committee confusion creates stalled deals. We rebuilt the offer architecture so each tier answered a distinct buying situation, priced and framed so champions could sell it internally without us in the room.

A path from hello to signed

The third phase was pure process design. We mapped the actual journey deals took - including everywhere they stalled - and rebuilt it into defined stages, each with a purpose, an owner, and exit criteria. Discovery stopped being a vibe and became a gate. The handoffs between sales, solutions engineering, and leadership got explicit. The result: a path from first conversation to closed deal that a sales leader can inspect, forecast, and tighten.

Why it matters here

This engagement is the pattern I bring to every technical company: the product is rarely the problem. The translation layer is - positioning, packaging, and process. Marketing that moves pipeline isn’t a campaign on top of the sales motion; it is the sales motion, designed on purpose.

Results

  • One coherent enterprise positioning replacing rep-by-rep improvisation
  • Repackaged offer architecture buying committees could evaluate and compare
  • An instrumented, stage-gated path from first conversation to signature
  • Delivered in five months, embedded with sales leadership

The journey

  1. Diagnosis

    Product ahead of motion

A category-leading security platform trusted by major internet properties - sold with positioning that varied rep to rep and packaging buyers struggled to compare.

  2. Months 1–2

    One narrative

Rebuilt the positioning into a single enterprise story every seller tells the same way - the problem framing, the competitive edges, the proof.

  3. Months 2–4

    Repackaging

Restructured how the security offerings were tiered and presented so an enterprise buying committee could evaluate, compare, and justify.

  4. Months 4–5

    The path to close

Rebuilt the sales process itself - each stage from discovery to signature given a purpose, an owner, and exit criteria, tightening a meandering cycle into a managed one.
